Electrical, leading into Engines

Yes we all know that motors over time will fail. But now I know how they fail and the signs of one going bad.

Using the modis and the acciliscope we can see the revolutions in the motor as it turns. We can see the diffrent spikes in them and patterns. Using those patterns we can see how bad a motor is.

Going into the Engines section, we get to chose our own engine that we can take appart and put back together and i found in the back shed a B series cummins marine engine that myself and some one else in class are going to take appart

Finaly found the battery in my car after a year of not knowing where it was.

in the quest to find a window control fuse (or in my case the circuit breaker) which is under my back seat, i found my battery as well.

But after making a couple jumper leads and putting the circuit breaker to them. i found that the driver side window, going up and down draws an amp more than the passenger window.

Since i had the battery out now too i decided to do a load test on my battery, which by how clean it was, it was a false assumption that it was a good battery. when i tested it it had 12.4 volts (by all accounts, is a dead battery in itself) When you load test you need half the cold cranking amps ( CCA) for 15 seconds. When i did this, it fell on its face, falling straight down to low 7 and high 6 volts.

So need a new battery for my car.

Begining of Fall Quarter.

Started on Tuesday and everyday except friday i was there 8 till 2:30 and on friday i left at 12:30.

Anyway worked on the lighting board with a couple others and we where able to wire the whole board up with the turn signals, brake lights, and reverse light. couldn't get the high beams working because of a faulty switch on the board itself.

And working on my own 2003 Bonnaville and trying to track down why the driver window is slower than the passenger window.
Best guess is its age and the driver window was probably used about 3 times more than the passenger window.

almost done with summer quarter

So got my hours i needed for this quarter, 310 hours. on thursday, myself and Tommy (the other worker in the shop) started pulling the axle out from under a 16 ft moving truck because we determined that it was out of alignment.

And thanks to Jeff, the String and Tape Measure was the first thing we tried. And Andy was impressed with how quick we could determine that it being out of alignment was the problem with it.

So now on Monday we are getting the new pins for the axle to the leaf spring and will get it corrected

Been a while again, and will get hours up shortly.

Worked on a 24 ft moving truck again today, last friday we replaced the rear wheel seals and now one of them is leaking.
Sadly we dont have the "wingis" driver as Jeff calls it from the school.  So we had to push it in with the old seal and a hammer.

didnt finish it today but will be finished on monday or tuseday.

The reason it came back was because the rear brakes went out due to an abs fault and so it drove from Seattle to Portland, then Portland back to Bellingham on just the front brakes. NOT a fun sight in my mind or looking at the results.

Sorry i havent posted anything for a couple weeks, just been busy.

a few weeks ago had to replace the struts on a ford windstar. The rear struts wernt hard, the front ones were. on top of that we had to pull the front driver side one out 3 times due to a defective top plate for it. when you turned the wheels it would make a bad chirping sound.

Then last week we replaced the brake pistons on the truck i used to get my tool box from the school to the shop. Both pistons where leaking. the first part of taking the brakes off was similar to taking the brakes off of a semi truck with the springs and such, then after that was nuts and bolts.

Curent work starting from 6/27

Sorry its been a while since i put anything up.

the first day back to Fountain rental i removed the windows, locking mechinisams and the window regulator from the driverside front door and sliding door on a windstar. they had gotten munched up in a wreck and where trying to salvage anything we could out of them.

and the second and third day i helped rewireing a truck and doing LOF's on a few vehicals.

The first of July we did the rear brakes on a 14ft moving box van.

and last thursday and friday we removed and replaced the struts in Andys forrunner.

putting my car on the lift yesterday i found myself i needed new rear struts. which where a combination shock absorber and air ride. as well as my front wheel barrings where starting to show that they where going out.

So looks like in the near future i need new Wheel Barrings, and in the distent future i need new rear struts.
